If you are a business owner, you often likely think of new or creative ways to bring in more revenue. One of the best ways to ensure your business is more successful is to make it accessible to everyone. Most business owners know there are laws for your business to be ADA compliant. These laws vary from state to state, and there are many ways to comply. However, you can also do more than just what is considered compliant. One way is by adding a Vertical Platform Lift to your business.

What is a Vertical Platform Lift?

A Vertical Platform Lift (VPL), also known as a porch lift, is like a small elevator. It gives access to people using scooters or wheelchairs or people with limited mobility a lift from the ground level to a porch or deck. Many people opt for a VPL because it isn’t as large as most wheelchair ramps and can save a tremendous amount of space.

Vertical Platform Lifts or VPLs are gaining popularity in local businesses these days. If a consumer sees that you offer this form of lift, it shows that you care about all your customer’s needs and that your business is inclusive.

Here are a few other benefits to having a VPL installed at your company:

First, the VPL gives your customers full access.

Since the VPL will help your customers access each floor in your business, you have all your products or services on full display. For example, if you have a patio only accessible by stairs, a VPL installation would be perfect. The more services or products your customers are aware of, the more interested they might be in trying out services or making purchases. It doesn’t hurt either that the greater access sets you apart from your competition.

Vertical Platform Lifts help with safety.

It can be dangerous for wheelchair-enabled users or individuals with limited mobility to try to navigate through a building. The VPL keeps customers safe and allows them to feel like they can maintain their independence. Keep in mind, that you never want a liability on your hands, so striving to keep your business as safe as possible is a win-win.

Installing a VPL will give your business a better reputation.

When a business adds modifications that ensure every customer has the best experience, it boosts your company’s reputation. Most successful business owners will tell you that it really is the small things that matter. Making sure your bathrooms are handicap accessible, your pathways are wide enough, and you have lifts so everyone can enjoy the entire establishment says a lot.

At Next Day Access, we can install a vertical platform lift in no time, with as little disturbance as possible. We can also help in other areas of need, whether you are trying to ensure you are ADA compliant or would just like to offer more amenities to people with mobility concerns. For example, we have a large assortment of grab bars for the bathroom, wheelchair ramps, and much more. Contact us today, and we can help ensure your business is readily available to everyone.

For aging adults, the stairs in their homes can become too dangerous to navigate. They may have limited mobility, accessibility concerns, lack of stability, or weakened muscles. When the stairs seem too challenging, many aging adults may think it is time for an assisted living community or a home with no stairs. At Next Day Access, our goal is to find solutions so aging adults can age safely and comfortably at home. We offer various stairlifts, some even suit curved stairs. Many individuals do not realize how cost-effective it is to put in a stairlift rather than move. We can even have your stairlift installed in no time with as little intrusion on your day-to-day as possible. Other than stairlifts being cost-effective, here are a few other benefits you will find when choosing to install a stairlift:

Stairlifts prevent injuries

Injury prevention is the most obvious benefit of installing a stairlift. You are less likely to slip and fall downstairs, which is the most common area that presents a high-risk fall. Just missing one step can result in a broken leg, hip, or other injuries.

Stairlifts are easy to use

Stairlifts are extremely easy to operate. When using the stairlift, you sit on the seat, put on the seatbelt, and press the switch on the armrest. Once you are at the top of the stairs, release the switch, and the lift will come to a rest.

If you find yourself at the top of the stairs but the stairlift is at the bottom, there are remotes you can leave upstairs and downstairs to send the stairlift to where it needs to be.

Stairlifts are comfortable

You can purchase a lift with extra cushion, but most people feel the standard lift is already very comfortable. There is a stairlift called the Bruno Elite, which is considered the highest quality because the seat, back, and armrest all have padded cushions.

Stairlifts restore independence

We once had an installer tearfully tell us about a sweet interaction with a customer. The customer was so thrilled with her stairlift because she was always stuck on the top floor, too afraid to go down the stairs for fear of falling. She was delighted she could now order a pizza since she had a stairlift! It’s such a simple thing, but having independence in your home is vital for your physical and mental health.

These are just a few of the benefits of installing a stairlift in your home. Our goal at Next Day Access is to help aging adults and individuals with mobility difficulties feel safe and comfortable at home. We are able to do this because we offer several solutions for accessibility concerns, including stairlifts, wheelchair ramps, porch lifts, and much more. Don’t hesitate to contact us today for all your mobility and accessibility needs.

If you are the caretaker for an aging loved one, you must be vigilant when fall proofing your home. Fall prevention is an essential part of helping prevent falls in aging adults and keeping them safe and healthy.

Here are a few warning signs your loved one might not be as steady on their feet. If you notice any of these signs, we urge you to contact us so we can help.

A vehicle lift is a mobility tool that helps individuals who use a wheelchair or a scooter. The scooter or wheelchair can be safely stored inside or outside the vehicle with little effort and transported to the destination for use by installing a vehicle lift in a van or on a vehicle. Being able to take a mobility device on the go is very helpful for people that would otherwise be homebound.

There are a variety of vehicle lifts available for purchase. Rest assured the professionals at Next Day Access will help you choose the right lift for your needs. To ensure you get the best vehicle lift for your needs, here are three questions to ask before buying a vehicle lift.

What type of lift do you need?

The type of vehicle lift you need will depend on several factors, but an essential element is what kind of vehicle you drive. It is good to research which lift is most compatible with your vehicle.

For example, if you have a van, the vehicle lift will differ from the vehicle lift for a sedan. You will also want to consider if you need more cargo space in the vehicle. If so, a Bruno Out-Sider Vehicle Lift may be a good option for you.

Is the lift easy to operate and install?

At Next Day Access, we can install your vehicle lift quickly with little interruption to your daily activities. How your vehicle lift operates is up to you. You can choose between electric vehicle lifts or a manual vehicle lift. Each version has its benefits.

The electric version allows you to slide your mobility device onto the lift and have it lifted and secured with a button push. A manual lift uses a rolling mechanism where you manually roll the lift into its proper position.

Is the vehicle lift ADA compliant?

What does it mean for a vehicle lift to be ADA compliant? According to the ADA or Americans with Disabilities Act website, this act was put in place to outline a specific set of standards that facilities, workplaces, and accommodations must obey.

Therefore, when a company is ADA compliant, the mobility devices they sell, including vehicle lifts, must meet ADA standards. These standards ensure that you are less likely to be injured using their products.

At Next Day Access, we are ADA compliant. If you have any questions about the Next Day Access vehicle lifts or any mobility or accessibility product, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our experts have you covered from the most common questions to specific technical and safety details.

At Next Day Access, we understand no matter the journey, maintaining your independence while staying safe at home or while traveling is essential. Secure your scooter or wheelchair to your automobile with a vehicle lift. Gain access to your home or porch with a vertical platform lift. Ease to a standing position with less pain by using a lift chair. We offer all these products and more! We compiled information on each type of lift product for your convenience, and we hope this helps you choose the right product.

Vehicle Lifts

There are a variety of vehicle lifts for wheelchair users. Since vehicles range from sedans, compact cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs, we offer vehicle lifts to fit them all. These different vehicle sizes change which styles of vehicle lifts would work for your situation.

Vehicle lifts are also designed with various degrees of automation. Some auto lifts work manually, while others range from partially automated to complete automated securement and lifting.

We offer several types of vehicle lifts. Your mobility level, type of vehicle, and automation desires will all be factors in deciding which lift will work best for you. Our experts will happily help you determine the best vehicle lift for your needs.

Vertical Platform Lifts

Next Day Access carries a wide range of vertical platform lifts or VPLs. A vertical platform lift functions similarly to an elevator but is typically used outdoors to reach decks, raised porches, or other elevated areas. This elevator-like mobility solution offers seamless vertical transportation to raised surfaces. The lifts can operate from 2 feet to 12 feet. A VPL is an excellent alternative to wheelchair ramps if space is limited.

Lift Chair Mobility Recliners

Lift chairs look like standard recliners, but they have a vital added feature. With just the push of a button, a lift chair can lift you to an upright position. Lift chairs have a powerful lifting system. When the button is pushed, the chair’s base tilts, causing the back of the chair to lift forward. This feature helps the user into a standing position. Anyone who has difficulty transitioning from sitting to standing because of balance issues or limited mobility can benefit tremendously from a lift chair. Our professionals at Next Day Access can help you choose the best lift chair for your needs.

No one wants a slippery or unsafe wheelchair ramp. At Next Day Access, we encourage you to follow these tips on keeping your wheelchair ramp safe and clean during the winter months’ precipitation cycles.

How To Keep Your Wheelchair Ramp Safe And Clean

Make sure the tread is in safe working order on your ramp

When you order your ramp from Next Day Access, it comes with sturdy treading to ensure you and your caregiver can keep a steady footing on the ramp. When winter weather is coming down, it is essential that you add either rock salt to the ramp or kitty litter to keep the tread working properly. You can protect the tread by adding these products which offer a sturdier footing on the ramp.

Keep an eye on the weather

When you notice the snow in the forecast, purchase an anti-icing solution, and apply it to the ramp. Often, these are the same products used on roads or other paved surfaces to keep them safe for cars and pedestrians. When you apply an anti-icing solution, it helps to keep snow from building up on the ramp.

Have a relative or caregiver shovel the ramp

Depending on the climate where you live, shoveling your ramp could be a daily activity. Keeping the ramp clear of snow and debris will help you easily use it and you can add the anti-icing solution or rock-salt easier once the ramp is clear. The rock salt will melt any lingering snow. It is helpful to shovel the snow, no matter how light the dusting to keep the ramp safe and clean.

Use a plastic shovel and thick bristled broom

When clearing your ramp of snow, instead of using a metal shovel, it is best to use a thick bristled broom or plastic shovel. These tools are gentler on your ramp and less likely to cause scratches or dents.

Travel with a caregiver or family member over a ramp during the winter months

If possible, try to wait until you have someone to help you navigate the ramp in winter. Even with all the preventative measures, we mentioned there could be a missed ice patch on the ramp which could cause you to slip and fall. Overall, remember during the winter months to exercise caution.

At Next Day Access, we hope you stay warm and cozy this winter season. If you find yourself having any issues with your ramp, contact us. We offer a variety of ramps to keep you safe this winter season.

If you have limited mobility, scooters are one of the best mobility devices to travel. They embody safety, ease, and independence. At Next Day Access, we offer 3-wheel and 4-wheel motorized scooters. Try to think about your lifestyle when deciding which scooter will best fit your unique needs.

One of the biggest differences between the 3-wheel and 4-wheel is its outdoor and indoor use. Four-wheel scooters work better when crossing over rugged terrain, while 3-wheel is better for maneuvering tight and smaller spaces. However, besides those, here are some other things to consider when in the market

3-Wheel Scooters
Go Go Elite Traveler 3 Wheel Red Pride
Pride Go Go Elite Traveler 3 Wheel
  • Primarily for indoor use. While it can withstand the outdoors, navigating over rough terrain isn’t as smooth as the 4-wheel scooter.
  • Maneuverability and tighter turning radius, which is handy for small spaces and indoors.
  • Offers more legroom for users who are taller
  • Lighter in weight and portable.
4-Wheel Scooters
ZT 10 Right Beauty RED 1
Pride Zero Turn 10 4 Wheel
  • More stable, sturdier, and wide wheelbase. The size comes in handy for people who need more durability from their scooter.
  • Offer greater balance when it comes to crossing varied terrain.
  • The design of the scooters allows for better weight distribution, resulting in a more comfortable ride.
  • Slightly more expensive than a 3-wheel scooter.

It’s important to take the features into consideration when choosing a mobility scooter to ensure you get the one that fits your lifestyle. Our accessibility experts can help you decide which scooter is best for you. Contact us for a free in-home safety consultation.

Remodeling your bathroom when a loved one becomes dependent on a wheelchair for mobility isn’t always an option. This is why we offer Fawssit portable showers for our customers. After a long day, a shower is a perfect way to relax and unwind. However, when you suffer from a disability or injury, showering can become difficult and dangerous. The shower is designed to help people using a wheelchair get in and out of the shower with ease.

How the Fawssit Portable Shower Works

The showers come assembled, so no tools or construction is required. The only two things you need are access to an electrical outlet and a sink. The unit is set up within 15 feet of a sink (if a longer distance is needed, you can contact the manufacturer, and they can make hoses to fit your home up to 30 feet). The sides of the shower fold open and secure with velcro straps. The unit comes with a vinyl drain pan that sits on the bottom. The front opens, so the wheelchair user enters and exits the unit. Attach the shower head to the sink faucet, plug the pump into a 3-prong outlet, and voila, you have a portable shower!

Once done showering, there is no need to wait for the pan to drain. The pan is designed to keep water from leaking when the wheelchair user exits. When the individual is done showering, turn off the pump, dry the water off from the curtain and pan, then fold the unit to be stored away until its next usage.

Variety of Models

There are a variety of Fawsitt Portable Showers. The Standard showers fit 220 lbs. And the Bariatric model can accommodate up to 400 lbs. There are also models for a reclining wheelchair or extra space for a caregiver aiding with bathing. When you are deciding which model will best fit your needs, our accessibility experts at Next Day Access store can help you.

At Next Day Access, our goal is to help people with disabilities live independently while being safe and comfortable. Contact us for a free in-home safety evaluation.

When looking for a mobility device to fit your lifestyle and mobility, there are a couple of different options. Whether it’s for a permanent or temporary use, there are options to help you get around and ride independently. The most popular devices are a power wheelchair or a mobility scooter. The main difference between the two devices is the operation and mobility use. However, understanding what makes the devices unique will help you make the best decision.

Power Wheelchairs

Power wheelchairs help people with limited strength and stamina to travel distances independently. With a simple control of the joystick, these devices are great for indoors and outdoors. They offer enhanced performance over varied terrains and outstanding maneuverability, making turning corners easy. And no worries about fitting through the halls and door frames of your home because their design makes it accessible. Power wheelchairs utilize various features and styles, such as convenient storage options, portability, or elevated seating.

Mobility Scooters

As mentioned before, the main difference between power wheelchairs and mobility scooters is the operation. Users control the scooter with a tiller and handlebars. Unlike a power wheelchair, users use a joystick. Depending on your range of mobility will help you decide which device is best for you.

Some features scooters offer are three-wheel or four-wheel, outdoor and indoor use and speed. A three-wheel scooter typically has a sharper turning radius and more legroom. These scooters are more optimal for indoor surfaces. Four-wheel scooters are broader and better suited for outdoor use.

Work With Accessibility Experts to Help You Decide

Overall, your mobility is the deciding factor when choosing between the devices. But once you know which device, there are many different features, designs, and styles to consider before making a purchase. Next Day Access has power wheelchairs and mobility scooters available for rental or purchase. Our accessibility experts can help you choose which device will work best for your lifestyle. As a mobility device user, one of your main concerns may be how to transport your wheelchair or scooter. With a vehicle lift, traveling with your mobility device can make the journey easier. Vehicle lifts are designed to safely transport an electric wheelchair, scooter, or manual wheelchair on or in your vehicle. At Next Day Access, we feature a variety of vehicle lifts that can accommodate your car, truck, etc. Here are some things to consider when purchasing a vehicle lift:

Types of Vehicle Lifts

The most common types of lifts are inside, outside, or hybrid.

  • Inside lifts are mounted in the vehicle’s cargo area with a hoist mechanism that swings outside the vehicle to load and lift the mobility device into the vehicle.
  • Outside lifts attach to the vehicle with a hitch and consists of an actuator and platform, which secures and carries the mobility device on the back of the vehicle.
  • Hybrid Lifts are mounted in the vehicle’s cargo area. These are designed to move out and down so the mobility device can load onto the platform on the ground. It is then lifted automatically into the vehicle for transport.

Vehicle Lift Compatibility

Before choosing the lift for your wheelchair or mobility scooter, it’s important to know your vehicle’s make and model. While you can buy a lift for just about any type of vehicle, it’s not a one-size-fits-all type of purchase. Knowing the make and model of your mobility device will help determine which lift will work.

Weight Capacity Considerations

It’s essential to know the weight of your mobility device, when looking for a vehicle lift. Your accessibility expert can help you choose a lift that will handle the weight of your device.

There are many things to consider when choosing a vehicle lift. At Next Day Access, our accessibility experts can work with you to provide the most appropriate lift for your vehicle. When you share with our experts your specific needs, they will ensure that you get the perfect vehicle lift. Contact us today for a free in-home safety evaluation.
